identity theft and foreclosure?

MR asked:

if you have your identity stolen and fraudulent mortgages or line of credits are taken on your primary residence, can bank foreclose on your property, if they can is there a way to protect your house.
This has happened to a friend, the person who stole is identity has been charged and convicted, my friend has been sending information to the banks, but it is taken a long time to get the banks to take the loans away. Everyday he is stressed that he is going to come home and see a foreclosure notice. He has been told that the bank can foreclosure and then it is up to him to try and get it back. I guess my question is can the bank foreclosure even though the loans were fraudelent and if they can is there a way to file something to prevent the bank from foreclosing.

Identity theft victim cable?

Ainhoa asked:

I printed up my free annual credit report from Experian and found 3 negative items for cable, phone, and satellite dish service. The person installed these services at their home and I reported it to our local police department. I get a call from the detective on the case who tells me that even though he has an address where the unauthorized services were installed, he can’t go to the house and charge them with anything cause he’d need someone to admit wrongdoing, which obviously won’t happen. My question is, WHAT THE HECK??? I mean, if you have an address and this person has installed services in my name, I don’t care if he/she doesn’t fess up to it! Let them know you’ve caught on and that they’re being investigated! Or not? How does this work? Why do I feel so violated, like I’m the one who did something wrong? And why does the ‘thief’ have more protection than I do?

Is this an identity theft scam?

Nervous Nelly asked:

Today, I received a call from a man claiming to be from TIAA-CREF. He said there were discrepancies in my SSN and then rattled off a SSN. I didn’t respond yes or no but said that I would contact TIAA-CREF directly to resolve any problems. When I contacted them, the TIAA-CREF call center said no employee would ever call me about my SSN. Would it be a good idea to put a fraud notice on my credit report immediately? To make matters more complicated, I am right in the middle of applying for a mortage to purchase a home and I don’t want that process screwed up.

Low rent identity theft?

Driving Layde asked:

Last year I held a job w/ a government agency where I would have access to sensitive information about the clients. I have since then resigned and am currently employed somewhere else.

But here’s the problem. I been contacted by a client of that agency claiming that I’ve stolen her or some of her neighbors information for personal use. First of all, I didn’t. Second these persons wouldn’t be the most ideal to commit theft against. They don’t have much income, it’s a low rent program ($50-300) monthly, and I would have had access to other programs with better canidates. I mean clients actually working and in the process of purchasing homes. The people harassing me live in the projects.

I would like some advice on how to handle this situation. I want to protect myself against any bull. I have not done anything wrong and really am not taking this all that serious but I want to do something if possible to end the harassment. Thanks in advance for your help.
